Postponed to 2022

In 1990, the City of Westlake's Mayor Dennis Clough and our founding sponsor, University Hospitals St. John Medical Center, agreed to host a five-mile charity run in Westlake, Ohio. Since 1990, Celebrate Westlake has raised over 1.4 million dollars for local charities such as Westlake D.A.R.E., Far West Center, Westlake Dept. of Senior & Community Services, SJMC Community Outreach and Wellness Ministry program, University Hospitals Woman's Health Center, Westlake Porter Public Library, and more.

The busy schedule for the popular event includes 5 Mile Adult Run, 5K Adult Run/Walk, 1 Mile Kids’ Fun Dash and activities as well as a Health and Fitness Expo.

The 2022 Celebrate Westlake (CW), a 5-Mile Run and 5K Run, 5K  Walk fundraiser will begin with day-of-the-race registration from 7:15 till race start at University Hospitals St. John Medical Center, 29000 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, Ohio.  The 5 mile run officially begins at 8:30 a.m., while the 5K run & 5K walk will kick off at 8:45 a.m. Both events will start and finish on Center Ridge Road, just north of the medical center.

Race Founder William “Bud” Hagy who has been with the event since its inception says this year’s event will be better than ever. Based on its growing popularity he predicts this year to attract more people.

“We have events for all ages; and if you do not walk or run you can cheer on participants and visit the health and fitness expo.” - Race Founder Bud Hagy

In addition to the 5 mile run, 5K run & 5K walk and 1 mile Kids’ Fun Dash; a Health and Fitness Expo will round out the day.  The Kids’ Fun Dash starts at 9:45 a.m. and will be held on the medical center’s fitness trail, which is a half-mile in length and is surrounded by trees and a fountain.

The Health and Fitness Expo, from 8 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., includes local merchants, health screenings and vendors displaying the latest in health and wellness products.  In addition, the St. John Medical Center Community Outreach Dept. will be on hand to provide free blood pressure readings, along with additional “healthy” information.

“We are very excited about connecting with all families and local businesses in Westlake and the surrounding communities” - Race Director Rick Fagan.

Registration fee's for the day’s events are: $25 pre-registration, which includes a custom shirt, $30 the day of the race with a custom shirt; $15 registration for seniors 65 and older with a custom shirt.  For kids younger than 13 running the Kids Fun Dash, the race is $5 with a T-Shirt or Free without a T-shirt.

Overseeing the 2022 Celebrate Westlake volunteers, Andrew Mangles, Executive Director of Westlake Porter Library, salutes the many volunteers who make this race a reality.

“We could not do what we do without the support of our volunteer corps. Their work behind-the-scenes greatly assists in the event’s seamless and smooth events. Many people commit themselves to the event and cause each year.”  - Volunteer Coordinator Andrew Mangles
